Mount Rushmore
88 years ago today, Congress approved a plan to blast and carve the faces of four presidents into the side of a mountain in South Dakota’s Black Hills. My all-time favorite shot of the national memorial: Lee Friedlander’s Mount Rushmore, 1969.
Picnic on the Moon
These picnic spots in White Sands National Monument have become one of my favorite places in this world. The giant root mound is nice, too.
